The Twenty-Year Meme

20 years ago I:
1. Was a moody 15-year-old.
2. Lived on Camp Pendleton, CA, outside of San Clemente.
3. Dyed my hair pink.
4. Listened to a lot of Smiths, Depeche Mode, and Bauhaus.
5. Started smoking cigarettes.
6. Did a lot of things I am very grateful I didn't have to report to the bar. Whew.
10 years ago I:
1. Was 25 years old.
2. Was working my first post-college job as an "Interactive Media Specialist" for a telecom giant.
3. Lived with Matthew in Sparks, Nevada.
4. Bought a Malinois puppy and had him shipped from North Carolina.
5. Did a lot of hiking.
6. Was a size 4.
5 years ago I:
1. Was 30 years old.
2. Lived in
3. Missed my grandfather's funeral because I had a property final.
4. Bought my first house.
5. Thought law school would never end.
6. Was a size 6-8.
3 years ago I:
1. Graduated from law school.
2. Took the bar (and passed).
3. Decided to start trying to get pregnant the following year.
4. Apologized to Matthew for the past three years (law school).
5. Stopped revealing my clothing size to anyone.
6. Opened my law office.
So far this year I:
1. Continue to live in my first house.
2. Have put my daughter in full-time day care.
3. Lost 7 pounds.
4. Gone back to work full-time.
5. Have not been good about keeping up with thank you notes.
6. Think a lot about sleeping.
Yesterday I:
1. Dropped Matthew and Peach off at "their" federal agency.
2. Drove a client down to Salem for an emotional mediation session.
3. Got the client a better deal than she'd gotten in a first mediation!
4. Was too tired to cook dinner, so we ate at Quiznos on the way home.
5. Didn't even bathe Peach before I put her to bed (yikes!).
Today I:
1. Woke up at 5:40.
2. Pulled out of the driveway at 6:50.
3. Will try to stay cool - our funky office does NOT have a/c.
4. Enjoyed watching Peach walk all the way around the kitchen island, unaided.
5. Really enjoyed watching Peach pull cans of Diet Dr. Pepper out of the box and try to drink them.
6. Will take my book (Marriage: A History) up on the roof of my building and spend some time reading.
Tomorrow I will:
1. Wake up at the same time as I did today.
2. Have a clean house!
3. Go to a doctor's appointment.
4. Enjoy cooler weather.
5. Do my best to blog again.
6. Really try to get to bed on time.
In the next year I will:
1. Marvel that I've been married 16 years.
2. Have a child entering her "terrible twos."
3. Start playing my cello again.
4. Continue to de-clutter and get rid of extraneous stuff.
5. Try some very interesting cases.
6. Get back into those size 4s.
