...this woman would be rotting in it. Good call on prosecuting her...although (her) God knows she'll probably claim it's an infringement on her 1st Amendment rights.
My first administrative assistant at my first grown-up job was bilked by someone just as unscrupulous - and she delayed evidence-based treatment long enough that her cancer killed her - and she was flat broke while she was dying. She had to work until the bitter end, vomiting in her wastebasket in between taking calls and writing letters.
It sickens me. Truly, these charlatans are the sort of people who deserve harsh prison sentences.
So sorry to hear about your first assistant. Some people just end up with the most rotten luck. But isn't it a true testimony to her strength that she didn't give up and kept pushing through, working and doing what she had to? Just sucks that she was forced to do so. That's why there are people like you and ND and others out there to make sure these bastards don't get away with screwing others over.

My mother loves these crazy "herbal" remedy people -- the ones who look in your eyes to diagnose all your medical conditions, or "analyze" locks of your hair. She subjected me to these witch doctor treatments as a child, it was horrible and I got extremely ill from some of those "treatments."
What makes me angry too, is that quack is an actual medical doctor, who took someone else's place in medical school and residency that would have actually practiced medicine, instead of, you know, letting their patients die while stealing all their money.
